Fern Bank Fairy

Cashiers, NC, has become a destination for antique lovers. Our little village is filled with an eclectic mix of antique shops each with a different specialty but all with reputable and knowledgeable staff. Several store owners travel the world over shopping for just the right pieces and are direct importers. Because of that, designers have come to depend on the Cashiers Antique District for unique pieces. In fact, many nationally known designers have found our little corner of the mountains, and items from our local stores are showing up on the pages of national magazines. (But, we’ll just keep that our little secret.)

One of our favorite finds is the fairy pictured here. We just knew she would stand out in any room, and she did. Her spot on the screen porch at Fern Bank Lakeside Cottage demonstrates how well this newfound treasure connected the inside space to the enchanting magic of Lake Glenville and its ever-changing nature show.

Dubbed the “Fern Bank Fairy,” this piece came from Dovetail Antiques, a great little warehouse filled with antiques and eccentricities – all with a French twist. Owner Sally Johannessen shops France and beyond to bring back one-of-a-kind treasures small enough to fit in the palm of your hand or large enough to create a whole room. She likes to say she is a pack-rat with a very good eye!
